Get Involved

At Humanity Hallows we aim to provide a safe and supportive space in which students volunteers can be creative and have their voices heard, while boosting their confidence – and their CV – with skills in journalism, editing, publishing, social media, event management and much, much more.

If you are interested in working with Humanity Hallows, and the Manchester Met Student Media Team, there are plenty of ways that you can get involved and gain invaluable experience alongside your studies. We are currently recruiting for a number of volunteer roles and welcome applications and contributions from all students. All Manchester Met students are able to apply and you don’t necessarily have to have worked for Humanity Hallows before—our only requirement is a demonstrable passion for student media.

2018 Editorial Team – Application form

We have a number of exciting opportunities for Manchester Met students to become members of the core Humanity Hallows editorial team. Current positions available are:

· Head News & Features Editor
(Local news, Business, Politics, Environment, Science, Tech)

· Head Opinion Editor
(Opinion, Columnists, Letters, Cartoons)

· Head Culture Editor
(Film, Music, TV & Radio, Books, Art & Design, Stage, Games)

· Head Lifestyle Editor
(Fashion, Food, Recipes, Travel, Health and Fitness, Women, Love and Sex, Beauty, Money)

· Head Sport Editor
(Football, Rugby, MMU Sport and more)

· Head Creative Editor
(Creative writing projects including poetry, short stories and creative collaborations)

This is a great opportunity to gain an insight into the world of journalism, to pick up genuine employability skills and contacts and meet new people. Full training and support will be provided.

All editorial team members are expected to be committed and work diligently with the rest of team to ensure the online and print magazines are to a consistent high standard. They are also required to run monthly meetings for contributors and editors to attend and pitch stories and plan workloads. They must act as mentors for their contributors and work to engage them in Humanity Hallows and help them to improve their writing and understanding of journalism.


Subeditor – Application form

Subeditors check the written text of the magazines and websites before it is published. They are responsible for ensuring the correct grammar, spelling, house style and tone of the published work. Subeditors are responsible for making sure that the copy is factually correct and that it suits the Humanity Hallows audience.

In order to be considered for an editorial role, you must have submitted at least three freelance contributions to Humanity Hallows.

As a Journalist for Humanity Hallows you will use your editorial talent and awareness of current news, trends and what makes great viral content, to source and produce high quality and thought-provoking articles to be posted across the Humanity Hallows website and social media platforms.

Commissioned Writers

Owing to the excellent work done by our team, Humanity Hallows is now a trusted and respected source of news among staff and students. As such, we often receive requests from Manchester Met departments for Humanity Hallows members to report on particular events happening in and around the university.

In order to be considered for our pool of commissioned writers, you must have submitted at least three freelance submissions, including at least one example of reportage and registered your interest via email to HumanityHallows.Editor@gmail.com including links to your work.
